Religious Publishing?

I have a friend who wrote an excerpt (religious) and her family and I believe that she should publish it, but she has no idea how to go about it. She wrote a detailed description of the pain that was endeared by Jesus as he carried the cross. It's really good, but I was wondering if a short story like that could be published somewhere as well... if anyone knows of a magazine or book that is written by it's readers and works shared by others... Somewhere that she can share what she wrote and not have to PAY!
