We've been friends for a long time, and we finally had now what?

So we kinda grew up together. Our mom's were more of friends than we were. Then they moved away, but not that far. Just not in the neighborhood anymore. Long story short, my mom somehow ended up at their house back in October and saw how much he'd grown up into a "man" and the two moms played match maker. I needed someone to go with me to a concert, everyone had bailed and my mom asked him and he said yes. Attraction galore. We made out for 2 hours in his car our second date from the concert. Then he started getting flaky because he had just gotten out of a 6 year relationship (his first relationship) from high school. We're both 24 almost 25. So it's been tug-pull with him since January of talking and not talking. But a month ago I finally unblocked him from gchat and started again being the aggressor. Like let's hang out, let's do this. And we started being friends again. Going to the gym together, going to lunch, dinner, hanging out. Then I asked him why he doesn't like me, and he said he's just not ready for a relationship it hurts getting hurt. And I told him he's going to make me hook up with a stranger for my first time (yes I was a Virgin this whole time) and he was like well in that case okay. So we made plans for a hotel sometime later in the week. But he was going to another state to check out a school (also why he didn't want to start something and have a long distance thing) so I made him invite me so we could have . And it happened and it was a great. And it was a good car ride back. He kissed me goodnight when he dropped me off. He's been texting me about school and what's going on with that. Do you think maybe if he does go away for school, a long distance thing could come of this or he's just going with it? He's a nice guy, I just don't know what he wants, or if he even knows what he wants. We're very compatible and comfortable with each other, would he really throw that away?
